The use of fillers for treatment of rhytids and facial volume enlargement has grown considerably in recent years. The various filler types used currently can be classified into temporary, semi-permanent (permanence of at least 18 months in the tissue) and permanent. Fillers can also be classified according to their composition (collagen, hyaluronic acid, polylactic acid, polymethylmethacrylate, hydroxyapatite). Moreover, the hyaluronic acid may be of synthetic or animal origin. Hyaluronic acid (temporary resorbable filler) has been one of the most frequently used substances. There is no ideal, pure and commercially available substance that is free of side effects. This study evaluates the side effects of using hyaluronic acid-based fillers in order to enable early diagnosis and treatment, and reduce morbidity and sequelae among patients.

Cutaneous atrophic striae (or striae distensae) is a very common skin condition that frequently motivates dermatological consultations. Due to its unaesthetic appearance, it can have a significant impact on patients' psychosocial status and quality of life. This study reviews the literature involving possible treatments for more recent and older cutaneous striae or stretch marks. Given the great number of etiological factors involved, the literature is abundant and divergent regarding the treatment of the condition.

Fractional photothermolysis was developed as an alternative to ablative lasers (which are effective but pose a high risk of complications) and non-ablative lasers (which have limited effectiveness). Fractional photothermolysis has been successfully used in diverse dermatological conditions. This study describes the case of an Asian male patient with atrophic scarring secondary to trauma in the left paranasal region, who underwent treatment with 1,550 nm non-ablative fractional Erbium Glass laser, which led to a significant improvement in the lesion. This case corroborates the use of less-invasive procedures in difficult-to-treat dermatoses and in treating Asian skin types safely and effectively.

Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic inflammatory disease resulting from follicular obstruction. This recurrent condition leads to the formation of fistulas and scars, which affect a patient's quality of life. The literature offers multiple therapeutic modalities, such as topical and oral antibiotics, isotretinoin, dapsone, TNF-α inhibitors, finasteride, conventional surgical therapies, and lasers (CO₂, Nd:Yag). The present article provides a review of these treatments and their indications, according to the stages of Hurley, which provides the dermatologist with a greater command of different techniques, thus leading to a more adequate treatment of patients.

Angioma serpiginosum is a rare and benign vascular ectasia that clinically arises as small red or purple dots, with serpiginous configuration. Controlled light pulses or intense pulsed light is the light source that emits high energy light within the continuous waves spectrum from 500nm to 1,200nm. Among its characteristics is the indication for the treatment of vascular lesions, which is the oxyhemoglobin chromophore’s pigment. This paper describes a case of a 12-year-old patient with angioma serpiginosum on the right arm that receded after 6 intense pulsed light sessions.

This study demonstrated the clinical and histologic result of the treatment of one disseminated superficial actinic porokeratosis patient with non-ablative fractional laser. The patient was treated with seven sessions of 1340-nm Nd:YAP laser, with 4 or 5 week-intervals. Biopsies and photographs were performed before and after treatment, which was well tolerated and lead to improvement in the erythema and texture of the lesions. There was a 1-year follow-up. Histopathologic examination after treatment revealed little changes in the cornoid lamella.

INTRODUCTION: Melasma is a recurrent and challenging dermatosis despite several clinical and interventional therapeutic approaches.
OBJECTIVE: This study aims to assess the safety and efficacy of using a bleaching cream in the period immediately after serial surface peels.
METHODS: Five women with melasma used a cream containing bleaches, moisturizers, and tranquilizers during the treatment period with serial surface peels. We assessed them in D0, D7, D30, D37, D60, D67, and D90 through photographs, record of the physician’s and patient’s opinion, description of adverse events, need to interrupt using the product, and the MELASQol questionnaire.
RESULTS: We observed improved hydration, skin quality, and bleaching, with little discomfort and a significant reduction in MELASQol scores, with statistical evidence.
CONCLUSIONS: The use of a topic cream with bleaching and tranquilizing properties is an effective and safe alternative to avoid interruption of melasma treatment during the period of serial surface peels.
