Introduction: Telogen effluvium is a chronic progressive alopecia of multifactorial etiology. Nutritional deficiency-sometimes subclinical-can trigger it. Objective: To evaluate the influence of a nutritional supplementation at physiological doses in patients with telogen effluvium. Methods: The supplementation of nutrients in food doses was carried out in 60 female patients for 180 days. Results: There was a significant improvement (p <0.05) in hair loss, which was confirmed by digital phototrichogram, where there was a significant increase in anagen hairs and reduction of telogen hairs. Conclusion: The present study demonstrated that in cases of telogen effluvium without an apparent cause, the replenishment of nutrients related to the hair cycle has a significant benefit in the regression of the picture as soon as after three months of treatment.

Introduction: The loss of dermal density and thickness, characterized by sagging and thinning skin, may be related to various conditions such as aging (both intrinsic and extrinsic) as well as abrupt changes in body mass - such as pregnancy or increased weight - and the resulting rupture of collagen fibers. Some nutrients can positively affect the dermal metabolism, thus improving its functional properties. Objective: To evaluate clinically and through ultrasound the effect of a nutritional supplement on the thickness of the dermis and on its functional properties. Methods: Twenty-eight female patients between the ages of 35 and 65 years, with facial sagging complaints, used the supplement for 90 days, having been evaluated subjectively and through ultrasound for clinical safety and efficacy. Results: The studied nutritional supplement provided a significant increase in dermal thickness after 30 days of use, in the areas evaluated. There was significant improvement in the firmness, elasticity, hydration and overall appearance of the skin. No adverse reaction related to the product was observed during the study period. Conclusions: The nutritional supplement was effective in improving the conditions of the dermis, increasing its thickness and clinical parameters of firmness, elasticity, and hydration, and has been proven safe and well-tolerated when used as instructed.

Introduction: Brittle nails or nails that do not grow are relatively frequent complaints in the dermatological practice, nonetheless there are few studies on how nutrition influences these symptoms.
Objective: To evaluate the possible influence of nutritional supplementation for improving the nail plate's resistance and growth.
Methods: Forty-five patients complaining of fragile/brittle nails were observed for 16 weeks under recommended daily intake of a nutritional supplement containing vitamins and trace elements, having undergone clinical and subjective evaluations in Weeks 8, 12 and 16.
Results: There were improvements in the parameters strength, resistance, growth and nail integrity from Week 8, with further progress after continued use of the supplement, allowing the conclusion that this treatment led to noticeable improvement of the nail plate's quality.
Conclusions: The nutritional supplement evaluated was safe and effective in improving the signs of nail weakening, including loss of resistance and reduction of growth rate.

INTRODUCTION: The skin aging process includes a functional decline of the scalp’s structures, with progressive atrophy of the dermis and follicular dermal papillae, which are crucial to the nutrition and metabolism of the hair follicle. These phenomena are directly related to a poor quality of the hair shaft.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the influence of a combination of nutrients on the keratinogenesis in the follicular dermal papilla.
METHODS: Cell cultures of human dermal papillae were incubated with a combination of A, C, D, E and B-complex vitamins, in addition to trace elements and keratin amino acids during 72 hours, in three different concentrations. These cultures were compared to an untreated control-culture. The papilla’s fibroblasts cell proliferation rate was determined after 72 hours.
RESULTS: The diverse concentrations evaluated promoted significant increase in cell proliferation as compared to the control group, however there was no significant difference between the concentrations studied.
CONCLUSION: The studied association of nutrients was capable to significantly act on the proliferation of cells in the human hair follicle’s dermal papilla, restoring more favorable conditions for the synthesis of the hair shaft. These findings demonstrate the presence of a significant potential in the approach strategy various causes of alopecia, including alopecia related to aging (senescent).
