The Ibero Latin-American College of Dermatology (CILAD) has had as its founding objectives scientific interchange, the fostering of closer intellectual relationships, and the intensification of fraternal ties between Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking dermatologists. CILAD is a member of the International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS), which gathers dermatologists from 22 countries. Its publication, Medicina Cutánea (Cutaneous Medicine), includes articles published in both Spanish and Portuguese. Its official website, www.cilad.org, is a success, with more than 10,000 monthly visits.

CILAD was founded in Havana, Cuba, in 1948, and its first president was the legendary Brazilian Professor J. Aguiar Pupo. Over the following years, illustrious Brazilian dermatologists have succeeded as CILAD’s president (Professors A. Padilha Goncalves, R. Azulay, and S. Sampaio), alternating with renowned Ibero-American dermatologists (Gay Prieto, Salazar Leite, Latapí, Abulafia, and Vilanoba, among others). Motivated by their common history, CILAD and the Brazilian Society of Dermatology (SBD) have decided to develop a joint path.Today, more than ever, the community of Latin-American dermatologists needs concerted action, where SBD shall find regional space to build on its extraordinary development, and CILAD shall benefit from the relationship with members of the largest community of our medical specialization. Supporting Surgical & Cosmetic Dermatology shall set a benchmark for constructive ways to work together for the good of dermatology in the region.The ultimate objective will be to collaborate in the areas of Continuing Medical Education and Qualification, participating in the correct qualification of the great number of modern dermatological procedures.
