In December 2012, Surgical & Cosmetic Dermatology completed four years of uninterrupted publication. This was an important period of consolidation and today, at the beginning of its 5thyear of existence, the journal – which is officially published by the Brazilian Society of Dermatology in collaboration with the Brazilian Society for Dermatological Surgery – has become an important source among Brazilian dermatologists for developments in the fields of Dermatological Surgery, Laser, and Cosmetic Dermatology.

In addition, the journal has also served to stimulate scientific production within the Brazilian dermatologic community, providing a platform for colleagues who work at university medical services or at private practices to share their surgical or cosmetic investigations.

Regarding the contents: while adhering to guidelines calling for an adequate balance between various types of articles reflecting the current research in the dermatologic field, and recommendations to avoid an endogenous approach to sourcing articles (by ensuring a proportionate distribution of authors from throughout the whole of Brazil), the journal''''''''s Editorial Board intends to request new and important indexes still this year.

We would like to give special thanks to the authors who offered their articles, to S&CD''''''''s Editorial Board, and to the 2013-2014 Board of Directors of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology for their fundamental support and invaluable collaboration.
